Our Structure & Bridge Division is seeking a qualified Engineer, Senior Asset Management to join the team. The selected candidate will serve as a Senior Asset Management Engineer in support of the statewide bridge, ancillary and/or tunnel inspection programs with oversight of multiple key program areas. The ideal candidate will possess a growth mindset, an aptitude for strategic analysis and problem solving, and a demonstrated commitment to servant leadership.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
• Supporting administration and development efforts related to VDOT’s bridge inspection management software, including;
o Facilitating access for authorized users.
o Providing customer support to authorized users.
o Providing customer support to upstream and downstream data consumers / producers.
o Coordinating with key stakeholders to identify functionality development needs.
o Coordinating with the software vendor to develop desired functionality and troubleshoot technical issues.
o Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure data quality.
o Producing deliverables for the annual data submittal to FHWA.
• Lead or support efforts related to procurement and administration of consultant contracts related to asset inspection and management.
• Performing quality control & assurance, including field visits, file review, and data review.
• Performing other duties related to the administration of the statewide bridge, tunnel, and ancillary inspection programs, as assigned.
• Scheduling, leading and/or participating in meetings related to VDOT’s statewide bridge inspection program, as well as meetings relevant to VDOT’s bridge data and bridge management software system.
• Assisting in the development of policies, procedures and practices reflecting proactive management of the assigned engineering program area.
• Organizing work and monitoring work tasks such that projects and documentation are completed within schedule using VDOT's standards, policies and procedures.
• Developing, recommending and implementing process and policy improvements as needed. Assisting in monitoring compliance to ensure conformance to the policy, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
• Participating or leading project teams as assigned. Ensuring timely communications between project team members and stakeholders. Ensuring information is technically accurate and effectively disseminated. Reviewing and resolving challenges to enhance team performance.
• Providing technical guidance and support related to bridge inspection activities, issues, and problems. Participating in meetings to ensure bridge-related issues are represented.
• Participating in professional services procurements for consultant support of the VDOT Bridge Inspection Program.
• Communicating effectively with customers internal and external to VDOT including local governments, elected officials, citizen groups, and FHWA.
Minimum Qualifications
• Skill in delivering or managing construction, inspection, or maintenance projects involving highway structures.
• Knowledge of specific design, construction, inspection, and/or maintenance considerations for assigned asset types,
• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Ability to communicate in written and verbal forms, including ability to make presentations.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.
• Knowledge of relevant asset design and construction methods, such as tunnel and shaft support systems/techniques or bridge materials and construction methods.
• Considerable engineering knowledge associated with the management of complex highway assets.
Additional Considerations
• Experience with ventilation, mechanical and electrical systems for tunnels or bridges with complex design features.
• Experience in asset management of highway structures relevant to assigned asset types, such as complex facilities or structures.
• Experience with the delivery or management of construction, inspection, or maintenance projects involving highway structures.
• Extensive engineering experience associated with the inspection or management of complex assets, relevant to assigned program areas.
• Managerial skills with a track record of leading multi-discipline teams.

VDOT is an emergency operation agency. Positions physically working within Central Office locations may be designated upon request and coordination among the respective District Engineer or Administrator and Chief. Assignments are updated annually. Not all designated employees are provided an emergency operations assignment.
