We are seeking qualified candidates to fill a Contract Monitor vacancy. This position provides support to the Fredericksburg District Interstate Maintenance Office in an hourly capacity and works onsite in alternating locations deemed necessary by the intestate department. Occupants of this position work a rotating schedule as needed.
The selected candidate will oversee contractors performing maintenance activities on roadways and major primaries to include all facilities and assets. They will monitor contractors’ work to ensure compliance with contract requirements and standards by conducting field reviews, evaluating condition of assets, developing work plan schedules, and monitoring maintenance budget spending. They will serve as a liaison between VDOT and contractors in monitoring emergency operations.
This position is an hourly/wage position. Wage employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week on average over the course of a year and are limited to 1,500 hours withing a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided.

Minimum Qualifications
• Valid driver’s license
• Knowledge and application of roadway construction, maintenance, repair techniques, and inspection procedures
• Ability to monitor and oversee the work of others
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret contracts, road/bridge specifications and regulations pertaining to highway maintenance; to collect and analyze data and prepare reports; to monitor, oversee the work of others and to provide feedback or corrective guidance as necessary
• Skill in the use of computers and software programs
• Ability to obtain Work Zone Safety and Flagging Certification
• Ability to obtain DEQ Dual Inspector certification within 12 months of employment
Additional Considerations
• Experience in roadway maintenance, construction, and equipment operations
• Experience in monitoring, inspecting, and documenting contractors' work or overseeing the work of others
• Skill in the use of automated construction management and financial software
• Possession of Work Zone Safety and Flagging Certification
• Possession of DEQ Dual Inspector Certification and ability to obtain VDOT materials certifications
• Possession of CDL

This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
